Sue McMillan is a bright, fresh talent with a unique complementary blend of acoustic pop and rock. ‘MAYBE’, her debut album showcasing original and unique songs was released March 2005 and has been received warmly by her ever-growing fan base.
Sue a gifted, witty and punchy lyricist began her journey at the age of 16, when she purchased her first guitar, taught herself to play, and began writing songs in her bedroom. Born in Australia but now residing in London, Sue’s first inspiration and love for music came from her mother who also boasted a love and passion for music. “One of my earliest memories is sitting next to my mum while she played the piano and sang show tunes and Beatles songs alike…always encouraging me to sing along with her”.
‘MAYBE’ host’s originality, flare and a depth of emotion that demonstrates personal life experiences that most of us can relate to. The title track itself speaks of love, loss and a personal challenge of growth and strength. This wonderfully individual debut album however, offers plenty more variety to make listening both engaging and a vivid journey. There is no shortage of passion and sentiment demonstrated in her songs, including the song ‘Fall in Me’, which reflects a want to embrace evading intimacy.
Sue is difficult to compare to any other talented artist, as her unscripted style stands out on its own. Her soft acoustic melodies and edgy guitar riffs have captured audiences whilst she has been touring clubs and bars in the last year. When asked ‘What next?’ Sue’s response is both honest and modest: “I’ve just completed my debut album, which has been a lifelong ambition…now it’s about putting in the work and getting myself out there and trying to establish myself as an artist, and learning as much as I can”. “It’s about seeing how far I can go…there are no guarantees in life, but I can’t not try!”
A woman of many talents with a definite ear and talent for music, she is also a self-taught DJ and has played at venues across London and Birmingham. When asked would you rather be a DJ than a singer/songwriter: “You know I loved DJing and got a real buzz from it…but my heart lies in singing and song writing…I just can’t stop myself picking up the guitar and playing with lyrics, chords and melodies! The songs control me, not the other way around!”
I suspect we will be hearing a lot more from Sue …so keep listening!!
